Review: Keepers & the Soul Key (Meridian Chronicles #4) by M.D. Fryson
Keepers & the Soul Key - MD Fryson

Syno

What has happened to Aiden after his selfless act of sacrificing his life for Meridian? Where did Meridian go? True love can break the curse, but only an act of true love from a twin soul sets her free. Their epic and sudden departure have left their friends, witches, fairies, and spirits in search of their souls. While the high court demons strategize their attack of the hall of souls to absorb the angels' power — the only demoness at court has her secret obsession, and she used Moloch, the dark one's soul collector, who may have taken more than just one soul of a wicked witch. Astaroth's secret obsession and help from Moloch may indirectly help the dark one's plan. But there is one problem that lingers. Lahash, the rogue demon of the high court, has been charged to destroy his obsession, Echo, the Earth nymph. After kidnapping her and taking her to the dark realm, she is weakened and cannot fend off the brooding demon's lust. In a passionate moment, Lahash finally confesses why he is so obsessed with the nymph, and she admits her secret knowledge of human souls. The search for Meridian and Aiden surfaces a shocking revelation. Aiden is trapped and needs to be saved, but from who? The spirit guides demand the return of a spirit guide from the keepers, who remains in the hall of souls. They believe this spirit guide can stop the demons, save the spirit guide realm, find Meridian, and save humankind. The keepers, known as the angels, have one request that the chosen one must accomplish before Etheria can be saved, and Aiden to be returned. There is only one weapon that can destroy the demons, and it is the angels' quartz sword hidden on Earth. Will Etheria's chosen one of the spirit realm find the sword? Will the demons be destroyed, or will dark one's plan triumph? Can the fallen finally be freed of their awful fate? Will Lahash kill Echo? Find out if all is to be in vain or if the chosen one can defeat the demons, connect with her twin soul, and form the powerful soul key that can save all.

My Thoughts

*I received a free copy from the author and chose to leave a voluntary review. Thank you!*

What a great conclusion to the series. I read it all in one sitting and did not put it down other than to get food and bathroom breaks, and even than I sometimes took it with me . When I started the series I was a bit confused, there were just so many people and so much going on with world building that I had a hard time staying focused. BUT once I got into and got to know the people better I loved it. I’m so glad I stuck with it. This being the last everything wraps up, but not before it takes us on a wild ride with lots of loops, twist and turns along the way. I really enjoyed not only this book but the entire series, it has everything I love in a book, paranormal, romance, action, suspense and lots of humor. I’m looking forward to more books from this author.

I rate this book a full 5★

 Bound by blood.

Tempted by desire.

Unleashed by destiny.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

My Thoughts

OMG this book was epic!!! Everything I needed but didn’t know until I read this book.

Not going to lie, the beginning was a bit slow and I had a hard time getting into and understanding the world setting. But man, I’m glad I stuck with it. The rest is just perfection.

Bryce at first seemed annoying to me but I was soo wrong about her, I loved her. Everything about her but most of all her struggles. She was super relatable, her emotions and actions, yes she had her moments of stupidity, but at least she was aware of it. Once she made her mind up she stuck to it and most of all she was loyal to her friends and loved ones. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for those she loved. Her friendship to Danika was everything.

Hunt I also wasn’t sure about but ended up loving with all my heart. Her also had his struggles of course but also overcomes a lot and grows throughout the book. He also a lot to deal with, even without having to babysit Bryce.

Ruhn, oh my Ruhn , he stole my heart from the very beginning, if anything happens to him I will never forgive her.

I loved the humor, the snark, the romance and the banter we get along the way, we also get grief, betrayal, healing, friendships, love , actions and nonstop twist and turns.

The last 300-200 pages were insane, so much action and emotions, my heart was racing nonstop, I cried so many times it wasn’t even funny anymore. This book had me all over the place with emotions.

So even with the slow start and world building I have to give it 4.5 ★

I can’t wait to get my hands on book two, whenever that may be.

Review: The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #3)by Rick Riordan
The Titan's Curse - Rick Riordan

Syno

It's not everyday you find yourself in combat with a half-lion, half-human.

But when you're the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster.

Oh, and guess what? The Oracle has predicted that not all of us will survive...

My Thoughts

It has been a while since I read book two, but it was super easy to get back into the world of Percy Jackson and his friends. Thanks to the great writing and in-story recap I never had the feeling that I have forgotten much, despite the long tome between the books.

Annabeth pretty disappeared during one of their adventures. Of course they have to go save her but that is never just that easy and many things fall into the way and trying not only to stop them but kill them.

Of course I still like Percy , I think I like him so much because he is just so “normal’ everyday struggles and just plain down to earth. But of course that often gets him in trouble, but makes it entertaining to say the least.  We meet some new Demi gods and their story, sooo far and we also meet Athena, goddess of hunt which is actually a bigger part of the story. She come with the hunt and we get to meet some hunters.

Zoey was a bit annoying in the beginning which I think that was by design, but I ended up really loving her.  We also meet Apollo, who is always has been my favorite when it comes to Greek mythology, that being said I really enjoyed his parts.

While the books are aimed at middle grade readers, I think that theses book are just amazing for all ages and will be enjoyed by much older audience as well.

Of course the ending ended on a cliffhanger and made me grave the next book right away, I’m looking forward very much to continue and finish this series.

Review: The Tenant (Kørner/Werner #1)by Katrine Engberg
The Tenant - Katrine Engberg

Syno

When a young woman is discovered brutally murdered in her own apartment, with an intricate pattern of lines carved into her face, Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. In short order, they establish a link between the victim, Julie Stender, and her landlady, Esther de Laurenti, who’s a bit too fond of drink and the host of raucous dinner parties with her artist friends. Esther also turns out to be a budding novelist—and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the still-unfinished mystery she’s writing, the link between fiction and real life grows both more urgent and more dangerous.

But Esther’s role in this twisted scenario is not quite as clear as it first seems. Is she the culprit—or just another victim, trapped in a twisted game of vengeance? Anette and Jeppe must dig more deeply into the two women’s pasts to discover the identity of the brutal puppet-master pulling the strings in this electrifying literary thriller.

This sounded really good and I was excited to start it. While the writing was really was good I really didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I think more or less it was a bit boring and I was underwhelmed for a thriller. There were a few times it got my heart going but not as much as I would have liked for this kind of book.

The setting was Denmark, I think it was pretty good described for the most part for even people who haven’t been there. But of course if you have been it could be easier to follow the setting.

Overall I thought the idea of the book was a bit better than the actual book, while it was good it was not great and at times boring. Overall I think give it 3 it held my interest enough not to quit and I enjoyed some parts of it.

Review: The Well of Ascension(Mistborn #2) by Brandon Sanderson
The Well of Ascension - Brandon Sanderson

Syno

Vin, the street urchin who has grown into the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and Elend Venture, the idealistic young nobleman who loves her, must build a healthy new society in the ashes of an empire. Three separate armies attack. As the siege tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.

My Thoughts

This book was insane, in a good way. While it felt seer long on audio I still enjoyed every minute of it. After the events if last book we have a lot of political stuff and planning, which normally bores me a little. But not this time, it was done well with not too much of this or that. Actually I can’t say I was ever bored during this book, it just keeps you on your toes, the entire time. The group is stronger than ever or at least it feel like it, the way they stick together and work together. I loved the friendship and relationships, sometimes unlikely friendships that were being built. Of course we see everyone, who survived last book, we also meet some new people. But be careful as the book had it, we never know who to trust. We meet Zayne early on but he is a big mystery most of the time. We also meet Tindle, and I’m not going to lie but I didn’t trust or like her, but in the end I liked her. She became somewhat the voice of reason for everyone and enjoyed that. Also heart warming was her friendship with Sazed even though they both so much different. Vin had a hard time adjusting to the new life and was still struggling … again. And often I felt bad for her that she couldn’t find a happy medium for her in some things. But as she does, she found what worked for her and in the end she worked through it. In many ways. Elend, I loved him in this book and I think he made the most progress….. But maybe that just felt like it because we get to know him better. I was also not a fan of Breeze before but that also changed, I enjoyed him a lot more. The same for OreSeur, we learn a lot more about him and his kind. Overall I loved this book, we get so much action and heartbreak and twist and turn on every corner. Up to the very last second didn’t know who to trust and one betrayal after the next. But we also get some tender and heartwarming moments and I loved the friendship between them all. The ending was crazy and I’m still not over it….

I’m very much looking forward to book three. I rate it 5 ★

Review: Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin
Serpent & Dove - Shelby Mahurin

Syno

Bound as one to love, honor, or burn. Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned. Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou's, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony. The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou's most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made. And love makes fools of us all.

My Thoughts

I heard many great things about his book but I was a bit worried that is it over hyped like many books, so I went in skeptical. But I’m to report that I actually really liked it. Way more than I thought I would. I liked the snark and humor but also the twist and turns it threw at us. Some I saw coming, some and the final was a surprise to me. I loved that the roles were almost reversed here. We have, Lou who is the cocky and dirty minded one and then we have Reid, the innocent Chasseur. Which made it often really comical. Lou just knew how to get to him, and push hos buttons but once warmed up he was so much fun as well. I did enjoy the slow-burn romance between the two a lot. But I also liked the friendships in this book, between her and Coco and her and Ansel as well. We get a bit of everything in this book, snark, romance, action and being on the run all the time. Overall it was rather fast paced, some parts felt a bit slower but overall it went by way to fast. The end leaves us with a cliffhanger and I cannot believe I have to wait soo long to find out what happens next.

I rate it 4★ and looking forward to book two very much.
