In the #1 New York Times bestselling Mercy Thompson novels, the coyote shapeshifter has found her voice in the werewolf pack. But when Mercy's bond with the pack and her mate is broken, she'll learn what it truly means to be alone...

Attacked and abducted in her home territory, Mercy finds herself in the clutches of the most powerful vampire in the world, taken as a weapon to use against alpha werewolf Adam and the ruler of the Tri-Cities vampires. In coyote form, Mercy escapes only to find herself without money, without clothing, and alone in the heart of Europe...

Unable to contact Adam and the rest of the pack, Mercy has allies to find and enemies to fight, and she needs to figure out which is which. Ancient powers stir, and Mercy must be her agile best to avoid causing a war between vampires and werewolves, and between werewolves and werewolves. And in the heart of the ancient city of Prague, old ghosts rise...

my though

I was so glad to get back to Mercy and Adam. Especially since the last book were he finally stood up for her in the pack and I was curious to see how it will continue.

This book is a bit different that the previous books, for one we get dual POV (Mercy and Adam) and it has (mostly) two timelines. But it is well narrated (by Mercy) that it is super easy to follow. Also most of the book takes away from home and with that a big part of the pack,

Mercy is taken really early on in the book and but it is not really obvious at forest in how much danger she really is. And as we know Mercy she also finds some trouble. She does escape fairly quickly in true Mercy fashion. Kicking butt and taking names, but that does not mean she is out of danger. Oh no, there are just different kind of dangers on top of her running from the powerful vampire Iacopo/Jacob. For one she has nothing, not even clothes and has to roam in a strange werewolf territory. Mercy gets herself in quite the few difficult situations along the way. But she also meets a few new people and some allies along the way. We also learn more about her and her heritage as a walker. Something is happening to her powers. She meets a golem and a few ghost on her long and curling journey to run from Jacob and to reunite with Adam and the pack.

One think we learn is just how far the reach of Marrok and his “daughter” really goes.

Adam. I love Adam in this book. Just everything about him or the way he handles things in this book. Even as he struggles with his wolf to keep control and not just kill everyone. We also see how strong their bond really is.

He works with Elizaveta , the vampires and some goblins to rescue Mercy.

He also takes along Honey, who was such a great and shining star in this book. I really love her and also feel for her sometimes as she still mourns Peter.

There are some really scary things happening to Adam as well and it was great to see him handle it.  It was also great to see him work so close with Stefan and Marsilia.

I really enjoyed seeing the nicer site of Marsilia and we learn a little about her as well.

I also enjoyed Larry the goblin and to learn a little more about them and I really hope to see more of Larry and his crew…… the same goes for Matt Smith (not the doctor)a werewolf that travels with Adam.

Iacopo/Jacob, I don’t think it is the last time we hear about him as the book ends. But that is all I can say for now to not give anything away.

Overall. I LOVED this book and I hardly put it down and now I ant wait to see how things continue. While it was neat those them off so far all over Europe and away from the pack , I cant wait to see them back home to see them as a family and with the pack . Plus, I really want to know how it all will work out with the Marrok, since they are still cut off from him.

I really have to give this book 5★ because it was just that great.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“I was in the belly of a bus in Italy, alone, naked and penniless. Also without a passport.”

***

“While I traveled by bus. Adam made do with a luxurious private jet. That is the kind of my life goes.”

***

“He will be furious,” said Marsila . She smiled, a surprisingly sweet expression on such a dangerous woman. “Somehow, when she is destroying other people’s carefully laid out plans, she is not so annoying.” “Fabulous” said the goblin.  “Such a clever coyote is your Mercy.”

***

“The most powerful supernatural entity in the Tri-whatsit city?” I change into a coyote”, I countered. “That’s my superpower. What do you think?”

***

“My love,” he said, his voice intent. “You are welcome to all that I am, all that I have. I would destroy the planet for you. I was even diplomatic for you, which was a bigger sacrifice. A little power drain is nothing.”
