Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!
Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

To be honest I picked this book because of the cover that it sounded interesting didn’t hurt. I also thought it sounded a lot like Live from iZombie. But it really only had a few similarities to iZombie and or Liv. I did take the fresh take on zombies compared to whet we know from the Walking Dead and the like. I really liked Angel and the fact that she is in no way perfect and had pretty much a really screwed up life. Well up to the pointy where she dies….. It is pretty clear early on what she is and it doesn’t take her long to figure out what she is. But she still doesn’t know what and how it happened. We follow her as she learns to be zombie what it means and how much her life changes, including her diet. She also learns what will happen if she does not follow her required brain diet and it is not pretty. There are actually some pretty gross moments in the book. Murders are happening everywhere and Angel is also in danger when she meets a rouge zombie. So we have the mystery and zombie aspect and a very light touch of romance. Angel is really funny and with that comes the endless humor. But not all is sunshine as there are plenty of sad moments in her life. I think the favorite thing of the book was to follow Angel as she grows and as she discovers that she really is a great person and start to love herself and fight for herself/ Overall, fun easy read and I’m looking forward to book two. I rate it 4 ½ ★
