Halfway to the Grave - Jeaniene Frost

syns

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner - are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

my though

I was going to take a break from reading anything paranormal for a while. But then the lovely Yodamom dropped this gem in my lap.

I figured I at least check it out and read the first few chapters, but I couldn’t stop reading it and before I knew it I was hooked on Cat and Bones. Hooked on the funny, yet very deep and emotional story of them, the past they have lived or the live they have been dealt.

I have no idea how I have not read this series yet and how I kept missing it, but I’m glad I finally been introduced to this world.

I really enjoyed this story, I loved the characters and their background. It has tons of action, is suspenseful and very funny, but also plenty of sexy moments. I thought it was a prefect mix of romance and action. Neither took away from the other and the romance fit in nicely into the story.

Loved Cat and her backstory, even she had been dealt a shitty hand in live, she still has plenty of humor and sarcasm left in her. She is super strong and nothing will bring her down, once she made up her mind. Nothing and nobody can change it either, well in most cases. Bones of course is an exception. There are certain things explained to she came about, but there are also many more question about her. I can’t wait to learn more about her, her past and future.

Sometime I felt sad for her and other times I wanted to smack her.

Bones, well I liked him from the start. He is very deadly and yet has a gentle heart and knew very early what he wanted and was not afraid to show it. He also is very funny and can kick butt like no other. He is one hell of an alpha male. I really liked his backstory, while sad it was also very interesting and made me like him so much more. Also that he will not back down.

We also meet some other supernatural groups, ghost and ghouls. I wonder if we get to meet more as the series continues or if it be more centered around the vampires.

Overall, I loved this book and looking forward to book 2. I most likely will not take a break from the supernatural as of right now lol .

I rate it 4★

Some of my favorite quotes

“We're going to knock those demons out and slay them with the power of Jesus. Hallelujah, can I get an amen?

“You! You tricked me! I never want to see you or that bottle of liquid arsenic again!”

I chucked the empty moonshine jug at him. Or tried to. It missed him by a dozen feet.

He picked it up in astonishment. “You drank the whole bloody thing? You were only supposed to have a few sips!”

“Did you say that? Did you?” He reached me just as I felt the ground tip. “Didn’t say anything. I’ve got those names, so that’s all that matters, but you men…you’re all alike. Alive, dead, undead—all perverts! I had a drunken pervert in my pants! Do you know how unsanitary that is?”

Bones held me upright. I would have protested, but I couldn’t remember how to. “What are you saying?”

“Winston poltergeisted my panties, that’s what!” I announced with a loud hiccup.

“Why, you scurvy, lecherous spook!” Bones yelled in the direction of the cemetery. “If my pipes still worked, I’d go right back there and piss on your grave!”

“Charles,” Bones said distinctly. “You’d better have a splendid explanation for her being on top of you.”

The black-haired vampire rose to his feet as soon as I jumped off, brushing the dirt off his clothes.

“Believe me, mate, I’ve never enjoyed a woman astride me less. I came out to say hello, and this she-devil blinded me by flinging rocks in my eyes. Then she vigorously attempted to split my skull before threatening to impale me with silver if I so much as even

twitched! It’s been a few years since I’ve been to America, but I daresay the method of greeting a person has changed

dramatically!”

“Lucifer’s bouncing balls, Kitten, not again!

You’re not a woman, you’re the Grim Reaper with red hair!

Come on, Kitten, let’s go. Before you murder someone else.
