Fight Me (Rivers Edge Book 2) - Lacey Black

Jake Stevens has it made. A local police officer with an open invitation to any number of beds around town, Jake has no desire to settle down with any of the ladies he entertains by night. After watching his best friend fall in love with his little sister, Jake is certain that love and marriage just aren’t in his cards. Heck, he’s not even playing with the same deck.

After Jake encounters a blast from the past one night, he finds himself swimming in uncharted waters. For the first time, Jake has found a woman he can’t get out of his mind. The kicker? The woman wants nothing to do with him.

Erin Anderson returns to the small Missouri town of Rivers Edge for a job after a twenty year absence. Erin spent years loathing the memory of Jake Stevens for his cruelness back in seventh grade. Now, Jake appears to be the same self-centered player he was in junior high, and no one seems to be able to push her button the way the cocky, yet devastatingly handsome cop does.

Between circumstances that keep thrusting them together and Jake’s persistence to annoy her, Erin struggles to fight her growing feelings for Jake. But, can Erin get past the hurt she felt all those years ago at the hands of a young Jake? Can Jake show Erin that what they have is worth fighting for?

This is the second book in the Rivers Edge series. It can be read as a standalone but it better to read in order of the series to get a better feel of the characters and family dynamic. I absolutely loved this book and lacey Black has done it again. Pulled me into the story and the characters very early on. I loved how Jake and Erin could not have been more different form each other and yet they made the perfect couple. Both are super stubborn and they clash quite a bit but in the end they attraction to each other is just too much to handle. It was sexy, funny and some suspense, overall a very fun read. What I love about lacey Black’s books so far is that the characters, environment and story are so relatable and most of all likeable. I also really enjoyed that the entire family plays so such a big part of the story and yet does not take away from the main couple. We still get a lot of Avery and Maddox as well as the rest of the family as they prepare for the wedding. I just also add that I just love Mrs. Steven. Overall another great book and I for sure will continue to read the rest of the Edge Rivers series and other books written by Mrs. Black I rate it 4 ½ ★ would have given it another 5★ but there were some slower parts in the book. Not bad and still very enjoyable but enough to knock half a point of.
