This book was a full-on roller coaster ride. There was also a lot of things happening in this book as we get closer and closer to the last book, which will be book 13 and only two more books to go.
That being said there are still some things we are left in the open about, but also some minor things are being revealed.
Someone from Ethan’s past is back and he wants the house and everything with it. Including his vampires. Of course to get to Ethan and draw him out he hurts the house and him where it hurts the most. That of course includes Merit.
As if that is not enough to deal with, the Navarre House is in trouble as well. That means we get a lot of Morgan in this book, and we find out why he kept his house and himself in the background all this time. Of course Cadogan house steps in to help, along with Scott from the Grey House.
I like how over the course of the series the houses have become strong allies and help each other no matter what.
Merit as is previous books gets stronger and more secure in her role and as Ethan’s other half. But some things are happening to her in this book and she gets attacked in a way she never thought possible. That leaves her pretty shaken up and she tries to deal with the drama throughout the book. At the same time while she is hesitant to some things she still stands up for herself and the house at the same time. Merit is actually going through a few things in this book and for once she is the one pushing Ethan away. Which was rather interesting but understandable. She also is fighting or avoiding Jonah and the RG. I’m really interested to see how that all turns out, given the new founded AAM.
The AAM is also mentioned but it is more in the background of the book but it is there and we hear from it and how it is going along for all the masters.
There were a few people that really surprised me in this book. And one of them was Ethan. Given the trouble, that he thinks is his fault and troubles I thought he again would push people away. But to my surprise he did not.
No if anything he stood behind them and accepted help when needed. I really loved how he dealt with Merit and her trauma. Loved that he didn’t push her away instead embraced her but yet gave her time. It may have taken him awhile but he really has become a great guy for Merit.
Another was Joshua Merit, while he was still himself as in most books there are some great heartbreaking moments in this book that shows that he is actually a human being and does care.
Malory and Catcher are also a big part if this book and seem to becoming a big part of the house, While of course some vampires still have issues with her , she still helps out. Her and Catcher are getting much more closer and they really deserve it. I like that it takes multiple books to fix that was broken. It makes it much more realistic. Her and Merit are also almost back to where they were.
To be honest I didn’t know if I ever could get over what she done, but as the books go on I really think it is going to be okay. Not what she done but that she knows how wrong and bad it was and works every day to make it better and even help others that just learn about their magic.
Of course we have Chuck and Jeff and the rest of the gang that all play a part in this series. I still a big fan of Luke and Lindsey and wish we get a little more of them.
Also, there was not a lot about the pack and I’m curios when we get more of that and the prophecy as we getting closer to the end of the series.
Overall it was a great book and, plenty of action, humor and some nice twists.
The end made it very clear that while they defeated one evil there is still one enemy that will be gunning for them.
