Wild Things - Chloe Neill

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.

But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?

Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

This book starts out with a bang. With Ethan is pretty much on the run from the mayor, him and Merit are hiding out with the pack at the Breckenridge estate, but as soon as they arrived all hell breaks loose. As they attend a pack function a major attack on the pack from a thought to be extinct supernatural group occurs. The pack loses a few people and of course the vampires are blamed. They pretty much force them to investigate what and why or take the blame for it. But with Ethan stuck at the estate, it just Merit and the gang. Ethan just delicate most of it, so really that is nothing new. But as they investigate more and more it turns out that multiple different supernatural groups been attacked and kidnapped all over the US. Including some elves that nobody knew of, other than Gabe Keene. The elves are not happy and also blame the pack and vampires and ready to declare war on them and mankind. I really liked the elves even though they are pretty much mean and bullies, but I hope to see more of them in future books. There are also some pretty interesting developments with the GP happening, while I’m getting a little tired to hear about them, I also am very interested to see where it will go. I just hope whatever it is does not drag out another 5 or so books ass a side story. But I have a feeling that it will be mainly next books problem. I like how much Merit has grown over the last books. She is defiantly more confident in her skin and she shows it. But I also like that she still misses her human life sometimes, it just makes it more relatable. Mallory and Catcher are also great in this book and I like how they grow just as much. Mallory is still learning to use her magic for good instead of not using it at all. It is a slow but steady process. Catcher, also uses his powers more then he used to in prior books. Jeff, is well the Jeff we know and love. Ethan, hmm well I do love the new and improved Ethan. He is much nicer and sweeter and romantic. He also seems to be more involved in battles which is a nice side to see, since he used to be a warrior. Also, like that he seems to be losing up a lot more and show how much he cares for Merit to everyone. Some other kind of surprise people come back, though I had a feeling they would at some point or an other . Overall. Great book, fast paced, with lots of action, humor and snark. Plus some smexy time with Mer and Ethan ;) Some nice twists are happening as well.

It was a great page turned and I pretty much finished it in a day and a half. I rate it at 4 ½ ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“I don’t suppose you’d be willing to go out with her? Sweeten her into giving up that favor?” “You want me to pimp myself out to make your life easier?’ “Now that you mention it, yes. Could you?”

***

“Don’t get kidnapped this time,” Catcher said. “Ethan gets irritable when you get kidnapped.” “That’s only one of many reasons he gets irritable,” I pointed out. “And I’ll do my best. But I make no promises.”

***

“There are those amongst us who have erred, deeply and significantly. Who have wounded the world and broken themselves. The worst of them lose themselves in their errors. The best of them crawl back, one foot at a time, and seek to amend their breaches. That is the way of the brave.

***

“I will have both of you," he said. "My Sentinel and my city. And the GP will learn exactly how stubborn we both can be.”
