Rock Chick - Kristen Ashley

Indy Savage, cop's daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy's employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he's interested, Indy's decided she's not. But she can't seem to keep Lee out of her life when she's repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she's finding dead bodies). Indy's best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee's challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.

my though

I never heard of this series and the books and the wonderful Yodamom recommended them to me. Thank you! I really enjoyed this book, and despite, people getting shot, kidnapped and beat up I laughed a lot with this book. Out loud. Yep, sitting there and reading and the next thing you know is me laughing like a lunatic. I really enjoyed the balance of this book of romance and action. We get plenty of action, from a diamond heist to high speed car chases and being kidnapped, but also some pretty sweet and hot romance which has some awesome sexy-times. And let’s not forget the humor, from dialog to things happening in the book it was pretty funny. The characters I had a hate-love relationship with. Indy ….. OMG I often wanted to strangle her. She is stubborn and sometimes stupid and didn’t seem to learn. She kept getting herself in trouble and in danger, which she could have easily prevented if she just would have thought for once or even listened. But even though she often tested my patience with her, I enjoyed her. Yes, she had her moments (many of them) but overall she just wanted to do right and is very funny and likeable. Lee, while I liked him better than Indy at times, he also had some issues, he often came over a little too controlling and possessive. But a lot of times I could understand it why he was like that with Indy, to keep her safe. But other times I thought it was a bit much. I really enjoyed the side characters, all of the funny and it felt like the balanced out the craziness that is Lee& Indy. Though the only minor thing that was a little annoying was the whole Lee & Indy hook- up team, How everyone wanted to know what is going on and it spread like a wildfire that they are now “together” , that got a little old after a while. But overall, I really enjoyed this book and laughed to many times and I will defiantly read more books in the series.

I rate it 4 ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“We’re not exactly together and were not, not together. We’re in together-limbo. We’re test-driving together to see if we want to buy it.”

***

“You know, you wouldn't even want a man who wouldn't go back to save someone's mother and a drag queen.”

***

“So, now you’re getting shot at, you’re gonna leave me?” “Girlie, I’m from Texas. We shoot at each other to say good morning.”

***

“I haven’t been avoiding you,”

“You’re lying. The last time we were both at dinner, you got up in the middle of Mom’s fajita presentation and said you forgot to feed your cat.” Uh-oh. “So?” “You don’t have a cat.”
