Music Notes - Lacey Black

That’s what I came to do.

I was prepared to do just that until I walked into my audition and saw him. Tall, mysterious, and gorgeous to boot, he was sitting at the coaches’ table with three others, ready to judge my performance, and decide my future. Yet, since I’d walked onto the stage, he continued to look at anything but me. So, I did the one thing I was there to do: sing. When I opened my mouth and let those words spill from my lips, he finally looked up. Those startling, dark eyes collided with mine with such intensity that I knew one thing for certain: I would never be the same.

I am Layne Carter, newest contestant on Rising Star, the biggest singing competition on reality television. Nothing can stop me from giving this show my all. Not my horrible diva roommate. Not the fact that I'm terribly homesick and miss my family. And certainly not my uncontrollable growing attraction to my coach, Beau Tanner, award winning country superstar. Nothing will stand in my way.

And I’m wrong.

This was one of those books, where I just want to scream the world… “GO BUY IT”. Matter of fact after I was done reading it I went and bought a copy and sent it to a friend so she can read it right away lol. I loved this book, I loved everything about it, the story, the characters the writing style. It was something fun, light, fresh and very entertaining. All the characters were really nicely written and had a great backstory, all of them even the background players of the book. The main characters were the same if not even better. You can’t help but love Layne and Beau. Both of them are funny, unique and what I loved about them the most was they stayed true to themselves. Especially Layne, she stayed herself throughout the whole book, no matter what people through at her. She was funny, went with the flow, responsible and like I said true to herself. She was ne funny grounded character. Her “note to self “ were so awesome and funny. The entire story was great as we get a sneak peek at the behind the scenes of a reality TV show and follow Layne, making her dream a reality. Not only that but also falling in love with Beau, something she never thought as was possible, having been badly hurt before. She heals and finds herself again, while trying to make a better life for her son and herself. I loved the fact that her having a son didn’t take away from the story but blended in really well with the story. It all seemed very natural and realistic. And other aspect I loved of this book that the reader at the end can chose which ending the want to read. They can read the “safe” or the “risky” ending. Or of course both. Both endings have a HEA for Layne. I read the “safe: ending first and after that the “risky” one. I can honestly say I’m still not sure which one I liked better. They both are great.

Overall I really loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. I rate it 5 ★
