I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator... Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape - but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it's up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not. Mercy's loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can't decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her..
Oh boy this is the third book and this time Mercy gets in way too deep with the fae and their business. Even after she is warned by everyone to stay out of it she keeps going and of course gets herself in trouble. Sometimes I’m not sure if she is just stubborn or on the edge of stupid when she gets herself in constant danger and that she can never keep her mouth shut. But at the same time I love that about her. She cares so much for others and the truth and wants things to be right that she doesn’t care in how much danger she will be in. This time I think she knows she got in way to deep and what happens will change her life forever. The last few chapters were kind of heart breaking. And I couldn’t help but feel sad and sorry for Mercy. I also can’t shake the feeling that there is more to her than (just) being a walker. Also, in this book she has to deal with of who she should choose. Samuel or Adam. I liked how it was not just squeezed into it but was a great part of the book. I won’t say who, (if) she chose or if I’m happy about it or not , otherwise it would be easy to figure out from my previous reviews. But, she kind of knew the answer all along. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Mercy next and in what trouble she can stir up next. Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot , had plenty of action, which was nicely balanced with romance but also had some rough moments for Mercy in it. I rate it 4 ★
Some of my favorite quotes:
I raised an eyebrow. “What? You thought you’d add some more color to your own face”
There was something about that man when he was all angry and dangerous that got my blood up. Sometime my survival instincts are not what they should be.
“Gonna be expensive if you break another wall,” I offered helpfully. He opened his eyes and looked at me/
I threw up my hands. “Fine, You want to support the Carpenters Union, that’s your business. Now move, I told Jesse I’d be back with clothes.”
“She sees ghosts,” said Samuel, impatient with my whining.
I see dead people,” I deadpanned back. Oddly, it was Uncle Mike who laughed. I hadn’t thought he’d be a moviegoer.”
